Recently I have been to a number of author events. I went to Harry Hartog with 80 fans to listen to Monica McInerney entertain us with her story. I’m a big fan and have been to a couple of her events and love the way she tells her story both in her books and as a speaker.
A week or so later it was off to the National Library to see Kate Forsyth. I didn’t know much about Kate and hadn’t read her books but knew she was held in high regard. Wow! I had no idea. She is an amazing storyteller and had me on the edge of my seat wanting more. I didn’t plan on buying her book but I raced upstairs to the bookshop and took my place in the signing line.
I joined a group of authors and illustrators at Muse to hear picture book author/illustrator Bob Graham tell us his story. I love his books and he was a delightful gentleman. He made the art of writing and illustrating look easy.
Then it was back to Harry Hartog to see Rebecca Johnson host one of her Juliet nearly a vet conventions. It was wonderful to see all the eager children happy to learn about science and practice on their soft toys!
I love going to these events as they inspire me to get back to my notebook and pen and get on with my writing. I certainly have had Monica’s advice in my head as I write.
