Here we are again at the end of another year. I looked back at my goals for 2017 and what I have achieved. How did I go?
Develop a good writing habit
Well … I did try and had more success than previous years. I did the Australian Writers Centre Bootcamp and wrote 8000ish words for a new book.
I spent a lot of time at the National Library and between coffees did finish writing the three chapter books in Sophie’s series. The books are now with Meaghan for illustrating and designing and I am beside myself with excitement at what she is creating.
Promoting You can do it Joey!
Joey wasn’t forgotten in this writing frenzy and is going well. I attended markets throughout the year and met lots of lovely people and sold books. I will be taking a break from market stalls for a few months until the new books are ready.
You can do it Joey! is doing well at local bookshops and it is such a thrill delivering more books to them and seeing Joey on the shelf. Check out the Stockist page to see where he is.
School visits
Well … didn’t do any of these. I’m not sure why I’m hesitating on this. In my day job I talk to students all day as a guide at one of Canberra’s exhibitions but I do have a block about going into schools to talk about my book and my writing story. Not sure why and will have to figure it out. With three new books next year, I do need to get my act together and share my books with school students.
Events
There were lots of amazing events throughout the year. My trip to Melbourne for KidlitVic; events for Noted and the ACT Writers Festival, the inaugural SCBWI ACT conference and a trip to Sydney for the Harper Collins Children’s Aspiring Writers Awards Night in November were highlights. Meeting some of my favourite authors and illustrators at launches and events was super exciting!
In 2018 I will be publishing Sophie’s series, continuing to promote Joey and hopefully writing the book I started during Bootcamp.
I wish you all a safe holiday time and happy reading and writing!
