Just before Christmas last year I came across an article about Braille House in Brisbane. Intrigued, I had a look at their website and discovered I loved what they do.
Here is the link to their website to see their amazing work. http://braillehouse.org.au
I knew I needed to donate copies of You can do it Joey! and contacted them. The response from their General Manager Sally came back quickly and they were happy to receive copies of Joey to transcribe into braille for their library. This moved me greatly.
I have had low vision issues since I was five years old and wore rather thick glasses until my early 30s when I was privileged to be a recipient of cornea tissue. My transplants were successful and I had brilliant vision. In 2005 my eyesight was compromised and for over twelve months had very little vision in both eyes. I was lucky and with lots of surgery in 2007 my vision was restored but there were times when the prospect of needing to learn braille was very real.
That You can do it Joey! will be available in braille for children with low vision to read is beyond exciting. Joey will also be a part of the programs they take out to Early Childhood Learning Centres and schools.
Sally promised to send me a copy to have a look at and feel the braille on the page.
The book arrived today.
