When You can do it Joey! was released a lot was going on in my life. We had sold our house in the country and were moving back to Canberra. I was leaving my library job and had boxes and boxes of books which I had to figure out how to get into the hands of readers. We moved the week after the book boxes arrived! Organising a launch wasn’t on my radar but a month after our move I was attending my first market in the town we had just left. Family were coming over from Perth to celebrate and we were heading down to Melbourne a few days after the market. The lovely organiser of the market suggested we advertise a time where I would read the book to the children who came to the market and we would set up some colouring in for them. Phew, that worked for me and we had a lovely time. Book launched!
For Sophie Makes New Friends it was different. We organised a launch at Harry Hartog Bookstore in Woden. The booksellers at this lovely bookshop are massive supporters of local creators.
While this was terrifying it was a big and exciting step to take. I was launching in a bookshop! I knew about half a dozen people were coming but on the day around thirty came! Family, friends and members of the Canberra writing community came along. People who were in the bookshop at the time came over to see what was happening and buy a book!
We had doughnuts from local business Krofne Donuts and I love the connection I now have with this organisation.
Thank you to everyone for their support and Sophie Makes New Friends is launched!
